Helge Deller 5f74f820f6 parisc: fix mmap_base calculation when stack grows upwards
Matoro reported various userspace crashes on the parisc platform with kernel
6.6 and bisected it to commit 3033cd4307 ("parisc: Use generic mmap top-down
layout and brk randomization").

That commit switched parisc to use the common infrastructure to calculate
mmap_base, but missed that the mmap_base() function takes care for
architectures where the stack grows downwards only.

Fix the mmap_base() calculation to include the stack-grows-upwards case
and thus fix the userspace crashes on parisc.

Helge Deller df24e1783e parisc: Add vDSO support
Add minimal vDSO support, which provides the signal trampoline helpers,
but none of the userspace syscall helpers like time wrappers.

The big benefit of this vDSO implementation is, that we now don't need
an executeable stack any longer. PA-RISC is one of the last
architectures where an executeable stack was needed in oder to implement
the signal trampolines by putting assembly instructions on the stack
which then gets executed. Instead the kernel will provide the relevant
code in the vDSO page and only put the pointers to the signal
information on the stack.

By dropping the need for executable stacks we avoid running into issues
with applications which want non executable stacks for security reasons.
Additionally, alternative stacks on memory areas without exec
permissions are supported too.

This code is based on an initial implementation by Randolph Chung from 2006:
https://lore.kernel.org/linux-parisc/4544A34A.6080700@tausq.org/

I did the porting and lifted the code to current code base. Dave fixed
the unwind code so that gdb and glibc are able to backtrace through the
code. An additional patch to gdb will be pushed upstream by Dave.

Sven Schnelle bc294838cc parisc: add support for TOC (transfer of control)
Almost all PA-RISC machines have either a button that
is labeled with 'TOC' or a BMC function to trigger a TOC.
TOC is a non-maskable interrupt that is sent to the processor.
This can be used for diagnostic purposes like obtaining a
stack trace/register dump or to enter KDB/KGDB.

As an example, on my c8000, TOC can be used with:

CONFIG_KGDB=y
CONFIG_KGDB_KDB=y

and the 'kgdboc=ttyS0,115200' appended to the command line.

Press ^[( on serial console, which will enter the BMC command line,
and enter 'TOC s':

Helge Deller 22ee3ea588 parisc: Make user stack size configurable
On parisc we need to initialize the memory layout for the user stack at
process start time to a fixed size, which up until now was limited to
the size as given by CONFIG_MAX_STACK_SIZE_MB at compile time.

This hard limit was too small and showed problems when compiling
ruby2.7, qmlcachegen and some Qt packages.

This patch changes two things:
a) It increases the default maximum stack size to 100MB.
b) Users can modify the stack hard limit size with ulimit and then newly
forked processes will use the given stack size which can even be bigger
   than the default 100MB.

Greg Kroah-Hartman b24413180f License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which
makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license.

By default all files without license information are under the default
license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2.

Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0'
SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding
shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text.

This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and
Philippe Ombredanne.

How this work was done:

Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of
the use cases:
 - file had no licensing information it it.
 - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it,
 - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information,

Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases
where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license
had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords.

The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to
a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the
output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX
tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the
base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files.

The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files
assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner
results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s)
to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not
immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was:
 - Files considered eligible had to be source code files.
 - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5
   lines of source
 - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5
   lines).

All documentation files were explicitly excluded.

The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license
identifiers to apply.

 - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was
considered to have no license information in it, and the top level
   COPYING file license applied.

For non */uapi/* files that summary was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 11139

and resulted in the first patch in this series.

If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH
Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was:

   SPDX license identifier # files
   ---------------------------------------------------|-------
   GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930

and resulted in the second patch in this series.

 - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one
of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if
any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in
it (per prior point). Results summary:

and that resulted in the third patch in this series.

 - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became
   the concluded license(s).

 - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a
license but the other didn't, or they both detected different
licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred.

 - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file
resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and
which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics).

 - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was
confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

 - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier,
the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later
   in time.

In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the
spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the
source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation
by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation.

Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from
FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners
disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The
Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so
they are related.

Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets
for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the
files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks
in about 15000 files.

In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have
copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the
correct identifier.

Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual
inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch
version early this week with:
 - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected
   license ids and scores
 - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+
files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct
 - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license
was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied
   SPDX license was correct

This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This
worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the
different types of files to be modified.

These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to
parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the
format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg
based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to
distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different
comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to
generate the patches.

The cr16 clocks of the physical PARISC CPUs are usually nonsynchronous.
Nevertheless, it seems that each CPU socket (which holds two cores) of
PA8800 and PA8900 CPUs (e.g. in a C8000 workstation) is fed by the same

Christian Borntraeger 79ab11cdb9 locking/core: Introduce cpu_relax_yield()
For spinning loops people do often use barrier() or cpu_relax().
For most architectures cpu_relax and barrier are the same, but on
some architectures cpu_relax can add some latency.
For example on power,sparc64 and arc, cpu_relax can shift the CPU
towards other hardware threads in an SMT environment.
On s390 cpu_relax does even more, it uses an hypercall to the
hypervisor to give up the timeslice.
In contrast to the SMT yielding this can result in larger latencies.
In some places this latency is unwanted, so another variant
"cpu_relax_lowlatency" was introduced. Before this is used in more
and more places, lets revert the logic and provide a cpu_relax_yield
that can be called in places where yielding is more important than
latency. By default this is the same as cpu_relax on all architectures.

Davidlohr Bueso 3a6bfbc91d arch, locking: Ciao arch_mutex_cpu_relax()
The arch_mutex_cpu_relax() function, introduced by 34b133f, is
hacky and ugly. It was added a few years ago to address the fact
that common cpu_relax() calls include yielding on s390, and thus
impact the optimistic spinning functionality of mutexes. Nowadays
we use this function well beyond mutexes: rwsem, qrwlock, mcs and
lockref. Since the macro that defines the call is in the mutex header,
any users must include mutex.h and the naming is misleading as well.

This patch (i) renames the call to cpu_relax_lowlatency ("relax, but
only if you can do it with very low latency") and (ii) defines it in
each arch's asm/processor.h local header, just like for regular cpu_relax
functions. On all archs, except s390, cpu_relax_lowlatency is simply cpu_relax,
and thus we can take it out of mutex.h. While this can seem redundant,
I believe it is a good choice as it allows us to move out arch specific
logic from generic locking primitives and enables future(?) archs to
transparently define it, similarly to System Z.

Helge Deller 042d27acb6 parisc, metag: Do not hardcode maximum userspace stack size
This patch affects only architectures where the stack grows upwards
(currently parisc and metag only). On those do not hardcode the maximum
initial stack size to 1GB for 32-bit processes, but make it configurable
via a config option.

The main problem with the hardcoded stack size is, that we have two
memory regions which grow upwards: stack and heap. To keep most of the
memory available for heap in a flexmap memory layout, it makes no sense
to hard allocate up to 1GB of the memory for stack which can't be used
as heap then.

This patch makes the stack size for 32-bit processes configurable and
uses 80MB as default value which has been in use during the last few
years on parisc and which hasn't showed any problems yet.

Specify the maximum stack size for arches where the stack grows upward

This fixes a BUG on metag if the RLIMIT_STACK hard limit is increased
beyond a safe value by root. E.g. when starting a process after running
"ulimit -H -s unlimited" it will then attempt to use a stack size of the
maximum 1GB which is far too big for metag's limited user virtual
address space (stack_top is usually 0x3ffff000):

Helge Deller d96b51ec14 parisc: fix irq stack on UP and SMP
The logic to detect if the irq stack was already in use with
raw_spin_trylock() is wrong, because it will generate a "trylock failure
on UP" error message with CONFIG_SMP=n and CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK=y.

arch_spin_trylock() can't be used either since in the CONFIG_SMP=n case
no atomic protection is given and we are reentrant here. A mutex didn't
worked either and brings more overhead by turning off interrupts.

So, let's use the fastest path for parisc which is the ldcw instruction.

Counting how often the irq stack was used is pretty useless, so just
drop this piece of code.

Furthermore we now do proper locking and change the irq bh handler

IRQ stacks are now enabled by default just to make sure that we not
overflow the kernel stack by accident.
